Tension and Trauma Release
This very special modality was founded by Dr. David Berceli. Beyond a somatic experience where you just sense and feel your body, TRE provides you with a unique opportunity to connect with the natural rhythm of your body.
When you hold out your arm or hand in front of you, do you suppose that it is still?
Or do you hold an awareness of the many muscle fibres which are constantly contracting and releasing in order to keep it there?
In actual fact, it's not just your muscle fibres which are constantly moving, but your whole body has a natural rhythmic pulse, oscillating with movement beneath your conscious awareness.
A heart beat, a blink, and breathing are all examples of this. Yet sometimes, through stress and the pressures of life these natural rhythms can become interrupted and replaced in some areas with stiffness, tension and pain. We become more rigid and more stuck, not just in our body but in our thoughts, feelings and sometimes behaviour as well.
Practising TRE helps to connect you with your body's natural recovery reflex, and restore your innate rhythm within.
Through the process of gentle tremoring, TRE down regulates the nervous system, balances the biochemistry of fight and flight, and returns your body to an easy natural state of ease.
Over time, it supports recovery from trauma and stress-related disorders such as PTSD, and participants describe feeling more relaxed, centred, and just more themselves again.
