Billie Buckthought

Billie is a yoga teacher with a decade of teaching experience, having guided classes across studios, private offerings, events, and online spaces throughout New Zealand.

She completed her 200-hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training in India in 2016, and later followed by a 50-hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training in New Zealand. Before yoga, Billie trained extensively in dance — an influence that still shapes the fluidity, awareness, and embodied nature of her teaching today.

Her connection to yoga deepened profoundly after experiencing a period of serious illness that left her largely bed-bound for many months before eventually being diagnosed with a chronic autoimmune condition. During that time, yoga became less about movement and more about breath, presence, healing, and reconnecting to herself. That experience continues to inform the way she teaches: slowly, intentionally, and with a strong emphasis on nervous system regulation and creating space to truly feel.

Billie’s classes are known for their grounding atmosphere, long-held yin postures, mindful breathwork, and deeply restorative savasana experiences that invite students to soften, slow down, and return home to themselves.

Now in the process of relocating to Rotorua with her family, she is excited to continue creating meaningful yoga experiences and immersive yin offerings within her new community.
